Product Details

ORTHOVISC is an injectable medication prescribed to treat knee pain in people with osteoarthritis. It should only be used after trying nonpharmacologic therapies and simple analgesics like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and naproxen.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that affects the joints, including knees, hips, fingers, and shoulders. Over time, the cartilage and fluid in joints erode, making it more painful to move those joints. The ORTHOVISC injection can be directly injected into the knee to provide pain relief.

ORTHVISC injection should only be administered by a healthcare professional using an aseptic technique in a clinical, hospital, or another healthcare setting. ORTHVISC is injected once weekly for three weeks.

ORTHOVISC injection is a single-use syringe that contains a solution of hyaluronan that is naturally-derived and dissolved in normal saline. Hyaluronan naturally occurs in the human body in joints and connective tissue and is used to lubricate these spaces. ORTHOVISC is prepared from chicken combs.

Use caution if you have an allergy to avian feathers, eggs, or other chicken products.

Do not administer ORTHOVISC injection into knee joints that are currently infected, inflamed, or afflicted with a skin disease.

Store ORTHOVISC at room temperature and do not refrigerate or freeze the product. Do not use the product if the package seal has been broken.
