  • Adults: Take 800 mg by mouth three times a day for 6 weeks.
  • Children age 5 or older (17 kg to 32 kg): Take up to 1.2 grams by mouth per day, in 2 divided doses for 6 weeks.
  • Children age 5 or older (33 kg to 53 kg): Take up to 2 grams by mouth per day, in 2 divided doses for 6 weeks.
  • Children age 5 or older (54 kg to 90 kg): Take up to 2.4 grams by mouth per day, in 2 divided doses for 6 weeks.

Asacol HD (delayed-release tablet):

  • Adults: Take 1.6 grams by mouth three times a day for 6 weeks.

Pentasa (extended-release capsule):

  • Adults: Take 1 gram by mouth 4 times a day for a total daily dose of 4 grams for up to 8 weeks.

Canasa (suppository):

  • Adults: Insert 1 suppository (1 gram) rectally at bedtime, retain for at least 1 to 3 hours, for 3 to 6 weeks.

Rowasa and sfRowasa (enema):

  • Adults: Insert 60 mL (4 grams) rectally at bedtime, retain for about 8 hours, for 3 to 6 weeks.

Prevention of ulcerative colitis symptoms from recurring:

Lialda (delayed-release tablet):

  • Adults: Take 2.4 grams by mouth once a day.

Delzicol (delayed-release capsule):

  • Adults: Take 1.6 grams by mouth per day, in 2 to 4 divided doses.

  • Adults: Take 1.5 grams by mouth once a day in the morning.

Side Effects
