Chemical Name ALBUTEROL (al-BYOO-ter-ole)
PROAIR HFA is a medication prescribed to treat both bronchospasms in reversible obstructive airway disease (asthma) and to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasms. PROAIR HFA can be used in patients that are four years of age or older.
In patients with asthma and exercise-induced bronchospasms, the lungs constrict and tighten, making it difficult to take a full breath.
Albuterol works by attaching to beta-receptors on the surface of smooth muscle cells in the lungs. When albuterol attaches to beta-receptors, it causes the muscles that line lung tissue to relax, making it easier to breathe.
Directions
The normal dosage is Inhale one to two puffs every four to six hours as needed for coughing or wheezing. Your instructions may vary depending on your indication and the severity of your disease.
PROAIR HFA and other albuterol inhalers may be used for acute bronchospasms.
